Challenge
Immersive experiences are fragmented: avatars and sessions are trapped inside individual apps. We needed a way for a live avatar—position, rotation, volumetric reconstruction—to traverse apps while keeping identity, consent, and media exchange secure.
Approach
Engineered a dual-application handshake where both clients authenticate, establish a data channel, and exchange capabilities. The layer passes volumetric reconstruction data and avatar pose from the originating app, while returning foveated equirectangular media from the destination. Consent and access requests are brokered centrally so Verizon retains IP control while enabling third-party experiences.
Outcome
Enabled interoperable presence: an avatar can be invited into another app, carry its volumetric state, and receive optimized media streams without re-auth. As engineering lead, I aligned the signaling, transport, and consent flows to Verizon’s standards, paving the way for partner ecosystems around immersive calls.
